    Rite-Aid Newbie (7/31-8/6)

Welcome to the first installment of a new feature on the blog called "Rite-Aid Newbie". Each week I will giving you a scenario for shopping at Rite-Aid that will be easy to follow and will score you some great deals. These deals will be put together for the Newbie shopper. I will not use more than 2 like coupons in any scenario and will (generally) keep it to one or two transactions.

A little housekeeping before we dive into this week's deals.

First, a HUGE thank you to Melody from This Beautifual Frugal Life and Angela from Frugal Living NW for giving me permission to use the match-ups that Melody posts on Frugal Living NW each week in order to put together these scenarios. I do not have the brain power to dissect the Rite-Aid ad like Melody does and I bow to her expertise.

Second, you will want to familiarize yourself with Rite-Aid various coupon programs before you get started. Make sure you are a Wellness+ member. Sign up here if you aren't a member yet. Then check out my posts about +UP Rewards and Single Check Rebates. You will also want to create an account here to access the Video Values coupons.

    Okay, let's get started.

    Transaction #1

    (1) Gillette ProGlide Razor ($9.99)
    - $4/1 Gillette ProGlide Razor (7/31 P&G insert)

    = $5.99
    Receive a $5 +UP Reward

    Transaction #2

    (1) Bic Soleil Dispposable Razors ($4.99)
    - $3/1 Bic Soleil Disposable Razor (7/10 SS Insert)

    (1) Skinny Cow 6 pack Candy ($2.99)
    - $1/1 Skinny Cow Chocolate Candy Box Rite Aid Video Values (August)
    - $1/1 Skinny Cow Chocolate Candy multipacks (
    7/31 RP Insert)

    (2) Aquafresh Extreme Clean Toothpaste ($1.99)
    - (2) $1/1 Aquafresh Extreme Clean coupon
$1.50/1 Rite Aid Video Values store coupon

    (1) Mitchum Advanced Control Deodorant ($3.99)
    $1/1 Mitchum coupon
    - $2/1 Rite Aid Video Values store coupon

    (2) Dawn dish liquid ($0.97)
    - (2) Use .50/1 Dawn coupon (7/31 P&G Insert)

    = $5.39
    - $5 +UP from Transaction #1
    = $0.39
Receive $1 +UP (from Bic Soleil)

    Grand Total = $5.38

So for about 1/2 the price of the Gillette razor, you will receive everything listed above. I'd love to hear back if you go out and try this deal out.

For all of this week's Rite-Aid match-ups be sure to head over to Frugal Living NW. And come back next week for another installment of Rite-Aid Newbie.

    More Target Toy Clearance Finds

I was driving past a Target today that my girlfriend had scouted out yesterday and said that they had not started marking down yet, but a sales associate had told her it would happen over the weekend. I decided to run in and see if they had started marking down. Most things were still 30% and 50% off, but look what I found for 75% off.

Fisher Price Big Action Dig 'n Ride ($10.56)
Super Spidey Activity Ride On ($8.74)
Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Cell Phone ($3.24)
Plastic Fireman Hat ($1.62) (for my son's upcoming firetruck birthday party)

    Regular Price = $96.64
    My Price = $24.16

I was SO excited to find the Fisher Price Dig 'n Ride. It was an online return, so complete luck that I happened upon it. My son is absolutely going to love it. I am now done birthday and Christmas shopping for my son and my nephew. I'll add some books and stocking stuffers for my son, but it feels great to be done with the big stuff.

    Target Toy Clearance

I was lamenting over on Twitter that I didn't think I had done very well at the big Target 75% off toy clearance. But when I got home and looked at what I got again, I was pretty happy. I may not have saved hundreds of dollars, but I also didn't spend hundreds of dollars. I spent less than $40 on everything pictured below.

    2 Handy Manny Consturction Sets
    2 Cars Duplo Sets
    Sorry Spin Game
Stick a Doodle Paper and Markers
    2 Baby Washclothes

    Regular Price = $ 149.92
    My Price = $ 37.34

I was really excited to find the Duplo sets because those rarely go on sale. And there are REALLY pricey! I was hoping to find the Fisher Price barbeque set. My girlfriend actually had one in her cart for me at another store, but someone took it when she had her back turned (seriously!!!).

So I was feeling good about my trip....until my sister sent me a picture of her trip.

Wowza! She spent $114 on over $380 dollars worth of merchandise. And to top it off, she will be donating most of it to Seattle Children's Hospital!

Nice work, Rachel. You definitely win this round (we're sisters...everything is a competition).

Did you go to the big toy sale? What did you get?

    Giggle: Muslin Swaddling Blankets $2/each

Yesterday, I read about a new daily deal site called Giggle over on Organic Deals and Coupons. When you sign up, they will e-mail you a coupon code for $10 off your first order. The coupon code showed up in my mailbox less than 24 hours after I signed up.

I went to check out the deals today and found these awesome bamboo muslin swaddling blankets. They are on sale for $15.99 for a 3-pack, but with your $10 credit you will only pay $5.99 for 3 blankets. I LOVED muslin swaddling blankets when my son was an infant. And I love that these are solid white....great washability (is that a word?). These would make a great addition to a baby shower gift.

Go to Giggle to sign up today. The coupon code should be in your e-mail tomorrow and the above deal runs through Friday, 7/29.

I Want to Hear from You!

I feel like I have been MIA from the blog for the past couple weeks.....and in all honesty, I feel like I have been MIA from life as well. I think the lack of sun here in Seattle is starting to wear me down. But I'm headed out of town this weekend and determined to get re-energized about life and about this blog.

And that is where you come in. I would LOVE for you to leave me a comment about what you would like to see on Coupon Newbie Blog. I have some ideas about the direction I want to take this blog, but I really want YOUR feedback, suggestions, and advice.

    * What types of posts do you enjoy on the blog (my shopping trips, daily deals, store match-ups, etc?)
    * What posts do you skip (be honest, I won't get my feelings hurt)?
    * What stores would you like to see me focus on?
    * What would you like to see on Coupon Newbie Blog that you don't see on other frugal websites?

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you in advance for any comments that you leave.

    Daily Deals I Love

Here's a couple of daily deals worth considering today.

These beach chairs look like such a fun idea. You can get them for $14-$19 each over at Fab.com. You can earn $30 in Fab.com credit when 10 of your friends join the site (no purchase necessary). They also have a fun collection of kitchen tools (guitar shaped cheese grater, anyone?). Go here to grab these deals.

Over on Plum District, you can get a $60 voucher for $25 to Calinana Jewelry. This would be a great voucher to use to pick up an awesome Christmas gift for your mom, mother-in-law, sister, etc. Plus, you will get FREE shipping. There are some really beautiful pieces on the Calinana website. Definitely worth checking out. Go here for this deal.

This last deal is a little pricey, but I absolutely LOVE these rockers. I have been wanting to get the airplane one for my nephew since before he was born (someone hide my credit card). On Family Finds, you can get any rocker from Rockabye for $69.99. These retail for $139.99.

Family Finds also still has a deal for a $30 voucher to Peeled Snacks for $15. Go here for these deals.

    I love this idea!

Did you get a chance to print the Target coupon last week for $2/1 Bed Pillow (no longer available)? I can across this great idea on my friend Karen's board on Pinterest. LOVE!

I don't know about you, but I personally need more than a $2.50 pillow under my head to get a good night's sleep. But this project would be a great way to use those cheap pillows. Basically you sew together 5 pillowcases, insert 5 pillows, and viola....you have a perfect nap mat for the kids.

Now if only I knew how to sew.....

I am loving Pinterest. This website allows you to create inspiration boards on any topic you want. You pull pictures from websites or other Pinterest boards and "pin" them on your board. I have already created a board for my son's 2nd birthday party (fire truck themed) and a wedding shower I am throwing. And I've thought of about a gazillon other boards I need to create. Are you on Pinterest?
