Christmas in July: Part 5

Saving on Handmade Gifts

A handmade gift can be a great personal and unique way of gift giving. However, buying supplies can get expensive...not to mention the time involved in making gifts. If you want to give handmade gifts this holiday season, here are some tips to save some money.

* Calculate the cost before you start the project. Make a list of ALL the supplies you will need and price them before you start shopping.

* Make sure the cost of the project is worth it. Sure giving a handmade gift is great, but if it is going to cost more than a store bought version...is it worth your time and money?

* Gather your supplies slowly. Watch for sales and coupons. JoAnn's and Michael's often have coupons in the newspaper, in home mailers, or online. Buy supplies only when you have a coupon or they are on sale.

* Look for supplies online. Check out sites such as Pick Your Plum, Scrapbook Steals, and Oh My Crafts.

* Let someone else do the making. You know I LOVE Heartsy.com. I plan on doing a ton of Christmas shopping through Heartsy. I'll get the benefit of giving a personal, unique and handmade gift without the stress of trying to harness my inner-crafter.
