  1. Shop early! We pick stuff up whenever we find it. Even if that IS July. :)

  2. We have a gift exchange. It's kind of like a white elephant but the gifts are way better. There is a $40 limit. It's fun to see what people bring and what people will fight over.

  4. I keep a list of people to send cards to, the people I'm going to give gifts to and people I'm going to gift with baked good. Then I sketch out a rough estimate of what the cost will be and divide it by 12. That's how much I need to set aside each month to be able to make it all work. The fun for me though is to see how much UNDER my estimate I can come!

  5. I shop all year long and have a monthly budget for gift shopping. Then during the holidays I can avoid the malls and not have to spend so much money at once.

  6. I collect items throughout the year.

  7. I've liked you on FB --now here's my tip:

My preferred grocery store sells gift cards for hundreds of other stores. Over the course of the year, I stow away grocery gift cards (out of my grocery budget); then, when the time comes, I use them to purchase gift cards for places I want to shop. It takes a LOT of the sting of holiday shopping, as it's basically paid for all year long.

  8. I stalk the clearance sales online for items I know I'm going to want, either for holiday gifts, or for birthday presents - this spreads the financial burden out a bit, and helps keep costs down, especially if I can find free shipping for some of the items!

  9. And I just "liked" the site on FB, too

  11. I pick up things here and there throughout the year and then do a 'gift check' sometime in October to see where I stand with my shopping list.

  14. What I do is shop early, and to plan what I want to get for everyone. Not just last-minute decisions.

  16. I made a list of everyone I need to shop for and allocated a certain budget for each. Then I keep an eye out for deals and as I find a hot deal I check my list and see who I can match the gift with. Thus far I am 25% done and well below my budgets with some great finds. Signing up for One-Day deal sites helps too. Also, consider giving someone a Groupon deal at their favorite restaurant or pampering session.
