I know I just did a post on this topic, but I cannot stress enough the importance of checking your receipts.
I was working on getting a post up about a recent trip to Target. As I was looking at my receipt, I realized that I was overcharged by over $5. There are 5 coupons that show up on my receipt as scanned but were not deducted from my total and 2 products that I was charged from than the price on the shelf.
I had actually asked the checker about some of the coupons that were scanning as $0. She told me it was because they were store coupons and would be taken off automatically. Of course, these were the coupons that didn't deduct.
This is third time this has happened to me in the past couple weeks (twice at Safeway and once at Target). It is so frustrating, especially when I don't realize it until after I get home. $5 is a good chunk of change and represents over 10% of my total. So back to Target I go tomorrow.
It makes me sick to think about how much I overpaid in the past before I was so diligent about checking my receipts and coupons.

This Week's Rite-Aid Trip
As I posted over the weekend, my main objective was to pick up Ziploc bags and some free toothpaste at Rite-Aid this week. After I took a look at the ad on Sunday, I added a couple things to my list. Awesome Albertson's Trip
Albertson's is running a promotion this week when you spend $25 on Conagra products, you get a $10 catalina back for your next purchase. The fine print says that the $25 is calculated after any manufacturer's coupons, but many of my favorite bloggers were reporting that the $25 is calculated before any manufacturer's coupons. I tried it out today and found that to be true. I saved 93% on everything below.

First Donation
As you know, I collect a lot of free items to donate. I found a great local organization to donate to and dropped off my first donation today.
The mission of The Sharehouse is "To bring a sense of self-sufficiency and comfort to families and individuals moving from homelessness to permanent housing, and to protect our environment by distributing useful household items that would otherwise be discarded". When a family is moving from homelessness to permananet housing, they come to The Sharehouse to "shop" for everything you need to start a household. The Sharehouse provides furniture, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products free of charge to these families.
Retail cost of my donation = $121.99
I paid = FREE
I am so happy to help support such a great organization. In addition to accepting donations of household items, The Sharehouse is also in need of financial donations to support their mission. The organization relies heavily on financial support from the community. Operating expenses include gas and maintenance for a truck and rent for warehouse space to hold the household items they acquire. Safeway Deals
I scored a couple good deals at Safeway on Saturday that I wanted to share with you.
These weren't on my shopping list, but my husband really likes them so I decided to get them as a treat for him. My Safeway had these on sale for 2/$5 (reg. price $2.99). I had one $1/2 coupon and there was a tearpad of $1/1 coupons. I grabbed 3 of those coupons (I probably could have taken 5, but that seemed greedy). Plus, there was a tearpad for a $5 rebate when you bought 5.
$2.50 X 5 = $12.50
- (1) $1/2
- (3) $1/1
OOP = $8.50
- $5 rebate
$3.50 or $0.70/each
As I have previously mentioned, I drink a lot of coffee. Safeway has Starbucks coffee (ground, whole bean, and flavored) on sale for $5.99 (reg. price $8.99). This price is good through Monday, 2/14. Already a pretty good deal. But better with coupons!

But.....the deal gets even better.
Each bag comes with a free tall brewed coffee (reg. price $1.50). I am usually a soy latte kind of girl, but I'll never pass up a free cup of coffee. So when you factor in the cost of the free cups of coffee, this works out to $2.99 each. Now that is a deal.

This deal doesn't work with $0.99 cards, but I did find some cute $2.00 cards (I have heard that there are $1.49 cards, but my store didn't have any). So for $1, I picked up 3 birthday cards. Including 2 "male" cards which I never seem to have any of.
I did my card purchase first so I could use the $5 catalina in my grocery purchase. An important note about "accounting".....make sure you are counting your discount only once. Even if you are only keeping track of your deals in your head, it is important not to think these cards were $1 AND I got $5 off my grocery order. It's only one or the other. I have to remind myself of this often as I learn couponing.
